Under the guidance and direction of Extension agents, volunteers complete a 40-hour training program, pass an examination, and complete at least a 40-hour internship. To remain active in the program volunteers must log a minimum of 20 hours of volunteer time and a minimum of 12 hours of continuing education each year. Ronan Tynan

Dr. Ronan Tynan (orthopedist) is known for his versatile range of repertoire, which includes selections from the operatic, oratorio, concert, and pop music genres. Dr. Tynan’s music training occurred at the Leinster School of Music and Drama in Dublin, Ireland, and continued at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England earning a post-graduate Diploma in Voice. In 1998, he became a member of The Irish Tenors, a group with whom he continues to tour with today. Through the years he has participated in Master Classes with Luciano Pavarotti, Italian tenor Ugo Benelli, Australian tenor Ken Neath, American tenor James King, and American soprano Cynthia Lawrence. Dr. Tynan has appeared in concert halls across the United States and internationally. He is a Sony recording artist who has released more than 10 titles, 4 of which have achieved platinum status.

Empty Bowls of the Albemarle is an annual fundraising event held in partnership with local artists, schools, restaurants, and benefits Food Bank of the Albemarle, Empty Bowls is designed to create a greater awareness about hunger in northeastern North Carolina.

Empty Bowls is a great opportunity to enjoy delicious foods provided by our local restaurants, gather with friends, while also helping to fight hunger in northeast North Carolina. This is certainly an event you don’t want to miss!

Tickets for the Preview Party and Silent Auction, which also include the luncheon on the following day are $45 in advance ($50 day of, at the door). Or, tickets can be purchased for the luncheon only for $20 in advance ($25 day of, at the door). Each ticket holder may select one piece of handcrafted pottery made by local artisans and arts education programs to take home as a keepsake and reminder of the estimated 55,130 people across the Albemarle area who are struggling with hunger every day.
